00:02:55 – I’m a big fan

I’m a big fan and like, we can get down and dirty with some really entrepreneurial things. But before we get into that, how did you get into doing all of this?

00:03:28 – A vast majority of the people that are coming out of the military believes that they have this grand plan

Well, I got I completely fell on my face pretty much every day and not every veteran, but I would say a vast majority of the people that are coming out of the military believes that they have this grand plan of what they’re going to do next.

And unfortunately, I would say rarely does that actually take shape the way that they thought it was going to. Now, that’s kind of the cool part, right? Because, you know, being able to roll with the punches is kind of the.

00:21:40 – I did things on a rate and a scale at a time frame that other people are like, how the hell did you do that?

So I started building my companies much more like the military.

So and I kind of fell into my own rhythm. And then it was much, much easier for me to do, seemingly. I mean, maybe not impossible things, but I did things on a rate and a scale at a time frame that other people are like, how the hell did you do that?

That was it was just because I felt comfortable that I felt.

00:25:20 – I was welding faster than anybody else.
And all I can say, I was like, sure. And I wanted to impress them. I mean, this was my sergeant-major six, eight years before that. And, you know, I wanted to impress him. And my biggest problem was I didn’t smoke because all the older welders, they would weld for 40 minutes and then go smoke for 20, you know, and I just kept welding and I was welding faster than anybody else.

00:33:17 – You can have a badass video, but if you put it on a Web page that gets no traffic
A friend of mine was making these high-end videos, but he didn’t know how to sell them. And he was like, hey, look, man, you come to sell them and I’ll make them and we’ll make a boatload of money.

And I started selling them. But the problem is you can’t sell more than one of those. They have because people don’t know what to do with video, that’s the thing like you can have a badass video, but if you put it on a Web page that gets no traffic and a Facebook that gives no traffic and a YouTube that gets no traffic, well, you can’t you can’t see the value and purchasing the videos.

00:46:00 – Like a lot of entrepreneurs that I’ve met
And I’m not saying that in jest, but he got people that are in the military. They typically have a, you know, a go bag by the door ready to walk out of their family’s lives at any given moment to go anywhere in the world to do anything that they’re asked to do without any.

Without you know, there’s no way to say no right, like there’s no questioning it that they say, hey, tomorrow at 6:00 a.m., you’re going to be on the tarmac and you’re going to some third world country.

You’ll be there at six o’clock. There’s no I don’t feel like it. I don’t have a dog sitter. I’ve got family. I need to be with the kids. I’m going to miss the softball game. This doesn’t work with my four-hour workweek. You know, they just make excuses, and then they can say that they’re not excuses. Like a lot of entrepreneurs that I’ve met to them. They’re not excuses, they’re reasons. And there’s a big difference between reasons and excuses.

00:50:18 – We’re more on a line and we’re all going for the end zone.
Yes, in the grand scheme of things, I don’t draw. I don’t draw. I make no distinction between those things. Like I don’t even work life balance. I think that’s all bullshit. I mean, and again, that might not land well with everybody that’s listening to this. But I, I don’t want to think about it like a seesaw where, you know, if I give to my business, I’m automatically taking away from my family

And if I give to my family, I’m automatically taken away from my business. Instead, I like to look at it more like we’re on a line, more like American football, for example. We’re more on a line and we’re all going for the end zone. My kids are on my team. My teammates are on my team. Everybody has their individual job. There’s running backs and there’s wide receivers and there’s linemen. And like everybody has their own job and we’re all going to the same end zone instead of I give the one I take away from another and back and forth, back and forth.

00:52:27 – And I try to work a step above that and work above the business.
And I try to work a step above that and work above the business. Right. So what I’m trying to do is nothing inside of any one of the individual companies that are solely responsible for. And then from there, I, I try to remain a consultant for my own companies. So I only come in when there’s negotiations, when there’s another merger acquisition when there is a sale or we’re bringing on a new revenue stream or there’s a massive fire or we’re bringing on a national client or like big, big, big things.

00:56:59 – They’re all emotional, tied and stick to the things that are fact and data-driven.

Where most entrepreneurs get stuck is they work so hard to build this thing, they don’t want to undo it in order to build the bigger thing. So consultants, when they come in, especially the really, really good ones that have lots of experience and lots of education and different areas, what they’re able to do is sift through the things that don’t matter. They’re all emotional, tied, and stick to the things that are fact and data-driven. And then from there, they get to coax you or move you in the direction of making a big change.
